Farmers Without Borders took shape in 2008 through the efforts of the founding volunteer Board of Directors: Samuel Godfrey, Mary Alice Johnson, Ray Pearmain, Glenn Raynor and Robin Tunnicliffe.
We explored how farmers could best contribute to international development, examined what efforts are currently underway, and debated and draft our Constitution. We also developed operational plans for the next two years.
Furthermore, we partnered with a Victoria BC based NGO and Registered Charity called VIDEA.
VIDEA is remarkable group of people who educate Canadians about the changes we need to make in order to further human rights and global justice. VIDEA works closely with dynamic organizations in the developing world - like Women for Change in Zambia. The goal is to help deliver development tools and aid to communities struggling with challenges including crushing poverty and lack of clean drinking water.
In 2009, the first Section of FWB, the Victoria Section, organized a very successful fundraiser which raised over $6000 in one evening. All proceeds were donated to dig a borehole (a closed well providing clean drinking water) in a community in Lundazi, in the eastern province of Zambia.
FWB is run by many volunteers and we look forward to acknowledging them all on this website as it develops.
As we strive to grow our organization to meet our goals, we ask that you join us. Your involvement will help shape the work of Farmers Without Borders. Membership is free and open to all those who support our mission and share our values, whether you farm, grow, garden or just eat.
